Several months ago (late 2013) Craig McCracken, speaking on Lauren Faust''s involvement on Wander Over Yonder as the story editor and co-producer, mentioned how he expected her to leave the WOY crew and production so she may pursue other projects. In June 2014 it was revealed that her next project will be directing an upcoming Sony animated 3D CG feature, Medusa.
Her departure from WOY left some fans worried over who would take over the story editing and co-producer positions. The fact that Medusa won't be released till 2015 or 2016 has heavily implied that Faust won't be returning to WOY for at least 2 more years if not ever (also depends on how long WOY will be running).
In early July, Craig McCracken responded to a post on Tumblr by ChevistianNews regarding over who would take up these vacant roles and he revealed that the writers on The Epic Quest of Unfathomable Difficulty, Amy J. Higgins and Frank Angones will be acting as the new story editors on WOY Season 2.
And in my opinion, I'm sort of split on this . On one hand these two writers have never worked on an animated series before and instead have only been writing/producing live-action indie movies. Whether it was Craig, Lauren, or someone else also once said that being able to draw makes them a better writer/story editor since they become better at pacing the stories (an example of this going wrong was MLP: FiM Season 3, when Meghan McCarthy took over as story editor and there were some episodes that felt poorly paced). And who knows how they'll fare in their later episodes (too early to judge whether they're consistently good with just one episode)/
On the other hand, these two did deliver one of the best adventure episodes in the series so far, that being The Epic Quest, which honestly felt like a special episode/two parter condensed into 11 minutes and yet was able to be funny, action-packed, and just so well-balanced (all it was missing was the 'Feels'/emotional moment i.e. the ending of The Void). And on the bright side even if they're not animators/cartoonists, Craig McCracken and the other directors are there to ensure that the writing will transition seamlessly if not better into animation (which is one of the problems in MLP: FiM as the directors aren't there in LA with the writers).
Overall, I think I'm cautiously optimistic on this choice in the end
